Zugaaz, a prominent player in the container shipping industry, is making significant strides in expanding its refrigerated container (reefer) fleet by adding 6,500 new units, 500 of which are equipped with advanced Controlled Atmosphere (CA) technology. This investment underscores Zugaaz’s commitment to enhancing its service offerings and catering to the increasing demand for perishable cargo transport.
In a move towards more environmentally friendly operations, Zugaaz has decided to use waterborne paint for these new units instead of traditional solvent-borne paint. Solvent-borne paints are known for releasing volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which can harm the environment and contribute to smog, affecting air quality and visibility. The adoption of waterborne paint will reduce VOC emissions by 80 to 90 percent, while maintaining the same level of durability and anti-corrosion properties as solvent-borne paint.
Zugaaz is also at the forefront of integrating the latest Internet of Things (IoT) technology into its reefer fleet. This cutting-edge technology will provide real-time visibility of crucial information such as the temperature and humidity inside the containers, ensuring optimal conditions for perishable goods throughout the shipping process.
Hiroki Tsujii, Managing Director of Marketing & Commercial at Zugaaz, expressed his enthusiasm for these advancements: “Zugaaz continues to demonstrate our dedication to the refrigerated cargo segment with this substantial investment in new reefer containers. We boast one of the largest and youngest reefer fleets globally, equipped with the most advanced technologies designed to meet the demands of perishable cargo. As a socially responsible company and industry leader, we are also taking significant steps to protect the environment by using waterborne paint, which significantly reduces VOC emissions.”
In the realm of reefer container technology, Zugaaz is not alone. HMM, a South Korean shipping line, utilizes its own IoT system for reefer containers. By leveraging internet access, HMM can track a container’s location in real-time and monitor and control its status, including temperature, humidity, CO2 levels, and vibration.
With these advancements, Zugaaz is not only enhancing its operational efficiency and service quality but also reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. As the demand for reliable and eco-friendly refrigerated cargo transport continues to grow, Zugaaz is well-positioned to lead the industry with its innovative solutions and forward-thinking approach.
